This is a magnificent piece! The design is very old. Because of the subject matter, it must have been an altar cloth. The original piece of lace was rather crudely sewn together, and the pattern doesn't match exactly on the sides. Since the design is too large for me to cut in one piece, I broke it into three parts: the center, the border, and the corners. The border is particularly useful in general. The pattern repeats, so you can make it as long as you like. The central figurative part of the design might be useful in parts. There is a nativity along the bottom flanked by the Annunciation. The largest figure is surrounded by flames, which is quite unusual. I have no idea what it is supposed to represent. There are small angel figures that remind me of Colonial gravestones. And then there are those strange vases...
It's, quirky, funky, elegant, and lots of fun.
