Getting a variety of textures when working with translucent vellum will allow you to create shading for emphasizing a part of a pattern or adding the illusion of depth. The Single Needle Tool is the only one I use for working with opaque paper. The technique is simply a form of paper piercing. What gives it a distinctive look is that the holes are smaller and closer together.
Note: The needles used for paper
piercing are thicker than this needle, and should not be used. They can
easily damage the templates.
